#ITriedIt Natural Dusting Spray

#ITriedItNatural Dusting Spray

Hello once again! It feels like I haven’t written in so long, but it’s only been a week and a half! Truthfully, I’m still getting used to posting consistently, especially when life gets in the way.

On to this week’s #ITriedIt! A couple of weeks ago, we finally ran out of dusting spray. We’ve had that particular can longer than I’m comfortable admitting. Instead of buying something new, I wanted to use ingredients I already had in the house and that I trusted more than any hidden chemicals I could buy from Lysol.

I did  lot of (Pinterest) research and derived my inspiration mostly from PinkWhen and Pins & Procrastination. I wanted to add lemon essential oil for cleaning power and a refreshing scent (click here to learn more about essential oils), so I used a glass spray bottle from Grove Collaborative. In fact, I received it for free as a part of a promotion. Seriously, guys, if you’re serious about natural cleaning and beauty products, you have to check out Grove! Anyway, citrus oils can degrade plastic, so it’s very important to mix in a glass bottle.

Lemon Dusting Spray

Here is the full ingredient list:

  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 15 drops Young Living lemon essential oil

Dusting Spray Ingredients

I combined everything in the spray bottle and gave it a good shake. I was worried the vinegar would make the spray too harsh and give everything a “disinfected” feeling versus a “dusted” feeling, but for you, my readers, I tried it. I started with my dresser, and I was pleasantly surprised at how conditioned the surface looked and felt! There was a pretty strong vinegar spray, but the lemon definitely added freshness.

Before & After

Next, I tried the spray on our wood coffee table. My husband built it, so I know it is finished with stain and polyurethane.  We use Method Wood Spray on it for regular cleaning, but I like to have something to use for quick, in between touch ups. I didn’t see quite as a drastic difference on the table, but it definitely made it feel cleaner.

Overall, I would say this was a win!

What I loved –

  • This was easy, and I had everything on hand
  • I feel entirely comfortable with all the ingredients – no chemicals!
  • This spray was effective in cleaning and conditioning

Things To Remember Next Time

  • Add 5-10 more drops of lemon oil for a fresher scent

Have you ever whipped up a natural cleaner with what you had on hand? How did it go?
