Welcome to the first installment of My Weekly Favorites! While I will dedicate whole posts to products that need more explanation, I’m also going to give quick blurbs each week to what I’m enjoying. I hope you find something delicious (or fun) to try!
This is an absolute, every week favorite. I have tried so many gluten free breads, and they range from inedible to tolerable. But this wonderful gift, this scientific miracle, is the best gluten free bread! It also happens to be nut free, dairy free, and soy free. I usually eat the 7 Grain, which most resembles store bought wheat bread. The Mountain White is also very delicious and is similar to typical white sandwich bread. I have found Canyon Bakehouse at Sprouts and Target (in two different parts of the country), but I know some Krogers carry it. If you visit their website, you can search for a store near you that carries it. Bonus? If the Target in your area carries it, you can find a 20% off cartwheel every couple of weeks. I’ll stock up when I can get them cheap and keep a couple of loaves in the freezer.
Guys. I need to confess something to you. I have a problem with sugar. Like a real problem. When it was warm outside, I usually look a Lipton Peach Tea or Coke to work with me in the morning for my caffeine. I know. Yikes! I tried to be healthier when it first got cold with hot tea, but I usually ended up breaking down and grabbing a Coke on my lunch break. Now I’m finally transitioning to coffee, but it my true fashion, I’m still loading it up with sweet, unhealthy creamer. It’s a process, right? Anyway, the creamer I wanted wasn’t available with my Kroger Clicklist this week, so they gave me this one as a substitute. I was skeptical at first, but it’s marked gluten free, so I went for it. Wow! I love it! I’m actually finishing my coffee in the morning and making the switch to water at lunch. I know I’ll have to eventually phase it out to cut back on sugar, but for now, hello Espresso Chocolate Coffee Creamer!
To this day, I still don’t fully understand why certain deli meats and bacon have gluten in them. I understand that it’s related to “fillers,” but if someone wants to educate me on the specifics, I’m all ears. I’ve tried a few different all natural bacons, but my husband was never crazy about them and would want his own. Smithfield, a meat company nearby, has the corner on the bacon market around here; when we saw the all natural, gluten free bacon in the store, we thought we’d give it a try! And I’m so glad we did! It has so much flavor and cooks up deliciously crispy. The packages also have thick cuts that make them great for either brunch or weeknight recipes.
For a non-food related favorite: body lotion! I recently started using the Think Dirty app to look into the products I’m using. And, whew, that was terrifying! I don’t recommend using this app unless you are prepared to rethink you’re whole bathroom. Anyway, I was running low in my Lotion of Many Chemicals, so I decided to be more purposeful in what I purchased. I know I can’t handle fragrances, and I need DEEEEEEEP hydration. Like my legs will bleed from dry skin in the winter if I’m not careful. I read some reviews and found the Acure brand on Grove Collaborative (a website that lets you mail order natural products at a discounted price). I have not been disappointed. The Acure lotion is organic, has absolutely no fragrances, and keeps my hands, legs, arms, everything moisturized. I also love that it’s not greasy, which is a problem with most petroleum based lotions. I can put it on and go about my day without worrying about my hands slipping on everything I touch.
Like many twenty-something women, I am obsessed with Gilmore Girls. I watched the series when it originally aired, including ABC Family syndication. I have listened to the Gilmore Guys podcast (almost) in its entirety. And I ignored my family and friends the weekend after Thanksgiving in order to watch the whole revival series in twenty-four hours. So imagine my joy when I heard Lauren Graham wrote a book about her experience as Lorelei, the success it brought her, and the roller coaster of revisiting her favorite character almost a decade later! I haven’t finished yet, but I’ve had to force myself to go to bed a couple of nights because it’s way too late and I’m laughing as I read while my husband snores next to me. The book is proving that she is the person I always imagined her to be, and I’m loving her break-in self commentary (shocking, right?). If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan or just want to try out a memoir that will make you laugh out loud, check out Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between) by Lauren Graham!
